Chefchaouen

Nestled in the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is famous for its blue-washed buildings and relaxed atmosphere. The medina is a quiet labyrinth of steps, cats, and mountain views. It is a place to slow down and simply be.

The blue color, supposedly introduced by Jewish refugees in the 1930s, has become the city's defining feature. The surrounding mountains offer some of Morocco's finest trekking, and the nearby Akchour waterfalls are a destination in their own right.
